Having learned Spanish in a classroom setting, the method that this product uses is not helpful in any way. It offers no explanations as to how phrases work. It does not teach you any grammar rules. It doesn’t even teach you the alphabet until the second level. In all language classes i have had (Spanish and Greek) we began with the alphabet. This product is in my opinion, useless. I would not recommend it to anyone.

This is a good software to build new vocabulary. I have used it for 2 weeks now. I have completed both disc 1 & 2 of the first level and I am currently working on level 2 disk 1. The first 2 disk will not teach you grammar, for that you will need to use the audio file CD. The Level 1 disc 1 and level 2 disc 1 share a similar format. You accumulate points by reviewing pictures associated with words and then you take a “test” or game, which is quite easy. To complete the number of points required you must take 2 sets of final exams. One is easy and the second one is much more difficult since a lot of concentration is required. You will be tested not only in German vocabulary but your memory skills (they show 5 flash cards with images, then they are flipped and the software will speak an object in german, you will need to remember the object plus which flash card it corresponds to).

For the money it is a good value and if I had to learn another language I would get one from the series. One caveat: the graphics are dated by the software does its job

There is obviously nothing better than actual in-country immersion for learning a language. This package, however, is the next best thing. Clear and easy to understand (and navigate), I find Topics language learning software superior and recommend it to my students.
